KAREN REFUGEE CAMP

Brief Description
A multimedia program that will be administered during a residency at a Karen Refugee Camp on the Thailand/Burma (Myanmar) border during the late fall.

Goals
Our goal will be provide training and technological tools that will allow the refugees to sustain the project once we have left. The program will be carried out in close partnership with local grassroots organizations. This provides for more consistent local monitoring, and thus a more appropriate response to genuine local interests and needs, as well as improved program sustainability.

Why
The Karen, an ethnic group of Burma, have been severely oppressed by the military dictatorship of Burma (Myanmar) for over 50 years. The civil war in the mountainous eastern part of the country has resulted in an exodus of over 120,000 Karens across the border into refugee camps in Thailand..
