Summer Internship Reflection

Over the course of the past eight weeks, I have worked as a paid intern at the San Diego Heads on Fire Fab Lab where I have learned many skills that can be applied both personally and professionaly, such as soldering electrical components, GPS mapping and the creation of three-dimensional architectual sketches. My experience here has also given me a perspective of others' lives and their benefits from and to technology.

The electronics team, which I was a member of, worked on many unique projects, such as the DRAWDIO circuit (pencil that emits sound when in contact with paper) and the lights and solar panel for the structure team's public installation piece. I have been able to apply these skills in my personal life, as to further gain an understanding of electrical components and their applications in every day life (e.g. creation of cables for refurbished radios and a computer's SATA hard drive). As I continue to work at the lab, now as an unpaid intern, I am likely to gain even more knowledge that can be further applied to personal goals. I hope to gain a further understanding of the operation and maintenance of the ShopBot in my extended time here at the lab.

While working, I have also further developed skills such as teamwork and communication with others, that can be applied in the working environment. I met many people who also shared an interest in technology and it's various applications. My experience with these people has been an enjoyable one, and I hope to continue relationships with a few of them. Hopefully, I may get another opportunity like this in the future.
