How Solar Panels Work.

Electrical team was assigned the task of reasearching how solar panels turn the direct light of sun into energy that powers homes, schools, cars, and many other structures. Solar panels use photovoltaic cells, photovoltaic cells use semi-conductors these semiconductors are made of silcion. Silicon has four arms that cling to four of its neibhor, this structure is called crystalline and is important in producing energy needed to power the cells. Impurities seem like it hinder the performance of the cell but without impurties PV cells wouldn't work. There are 6 layers first layer is back contact the second and third layer is P-type and N-type layer which is postive and negitive for N-type Boron is added as form of impurity.

PV cells aren't the most reliable form of renewable energy. The energy you harness from the sun is only 15%. Clearly PV cells are new on market and need more time to develop and more research needs to be done. In order to get the most efieciency from solar panels you need to direct it at true south, you need to make sure its not nearby any objects that could block out the sun such as trees, buildings. The geographical location in which you live is important factor as well. You cant tan if your in Wisconsin. The angle of inclination needs to be equal to area of lattitude. The weather is also factor. If just one 36 cells are blocked the power is reduced by a half.

Storing energy by using batteries is a alternative but batteries are expensive because they require maintance. The type of batterie is either nickel-cadium or acidic electrocyte batterie. Nickel-Cadium discharges small amount of current but is effeicent. It doesn't release toxic chemicals like acidic batterie does. You would also need an inverter because energy from sun is DC (Direct Current) so you need to convert it to AC ( alternating current).

If more research is done and people really take intituitive to cut of from unrenawble resource. Solar panels will be a harbinger of new clean energy. Energy that is cost effective, people from around world will be all able to harness the energy of sun no matter where your from.
